When was it? Who was playing? Were there more than one band present?
Why was it so memorable?
And best of all; if you had the chance to go to that concert again, would you?

This might sound a little odd, but one of my favorite concerts actually took place at GenCon this year. It was a small, fairly casual thing held in one of the convention rooms, and all the performers were filkers.
For those who don't know, filk music is like folk music, only it usually has a sci-fi/fantasy/tech/geek theme to it, and is usually played at conventions.
The performers were Worm Quartet, "The Great" Lukeski, and a gentleman whose name I can't remember who did (I am not making this up) rap about things like spam e-mail, alien abductions, and geekiness. He was actually pretty good.
The highlight of the show was probably an audience participation song by Worm Quartet called "What Your Parents Think Your Music Sounds Like" with sections of the audience cued to shout (at the top of our lungs) either "SEX!" "DRUGS!" or "SATAN!"
It was a fantastic time, and I'd definitely do it over again if I had the chance.

Favorite concert? Ooh, tough call.
I guess it'd be a tie, actually. For different reasons.
Wishbone Ash opened for Nazareth, Blue Oyster Cult and Uriah Heep - That was the best night of live music I've ever enjoyed, but for my golden birthday I went to a Metallica concert and recieved an autographed (bass) drum head with the Metallica logo on it. Music was good, but the massive drum head made me cry - that was just AWESOME. |

I never went to a concert, but back in the early 70's they used to have an annual two day "bluemountain festival" held up around Moscow, Idaho. From what I remember(LOL) it was a blast.
Can't remember any of the bands though, I guess my mind wasn't quite in condition for remembering then.
God bless, JADE

My favourite is an annual Musical Festival we have every year called X-Fest, sponsored by a radio station.
Not only was it 11 hours of music, but I got to meet Linkin Park, and I got to see Rammstein perform (which is awesome), too bad Rammstein's been banned from the country now.

Rammsein is one of my sons favorite bands. YUK, how can you guys stand the obnoxious shouting. And the lyrics are terrible if your able to understand them. They appear to be quite the racist and hateful band from I can discern.

I've never known them to be racist, a bit on the "in need of anger management" types of bands, yeah I could agree there.

Jade, I could pretty much cut and paste what you just said *directly* onto most of the statements made by opponents of rock 'n roll music in the 50's. You wouldn't believe how folks reacted to Elvis Presley shaking his hips, or Little Richard getting up on his piano and playing (ghasp!) upside down. Times change, music changes. No one's telling you that you should like it, but be assured SOMEONE does. Personally, I can't stand country music. NOT- I hasten to add- Bluegrass, which is fine, but Billy Ray Cyrus style country. It makes my fillings ache. But I respect that someone out there just loves the horrible stuff.
Time marches on. It doesn't wait to find out if we're keeping up or not.

While only being a young 52 years old, I was kinda close to the Elvis era and yes they were in shock with his hip shaking. My era was when the song "Gloria" came out and got banned from the airwaves. Again it wasn't all that bad of a song.
I also understand that we all have different tastes in music, etc., and my comment wasn't intent on belittling anyone as much as it was more on the viewpoint and questioning a band I am vaguely familiar with. My Ipod downloads all the music my family downloads, so I am able to listen to eminem, Dying fetus,Insane clown posse, pig destroyer, slipknot, social distortion, System of a down, cannibal corpse, and on and on. By the way, I also have Christian, Spanish, country, bluegrass, classical, etc. Ipods are amazing.
So I do try to listen to what my kids listen to. Many parents say they KNOW what their kids listen to. I think they are mostly dillusional on this point. Kids let us listen to the music they think we will accept. My son was getting CDs burned by friends since he knew he was too young to buy them and I wouldn't have allowed it anyway.
But Speaking from a rather liberal view of personal freedoms (even though I am a conservative in many things) I really do think we have went too far in allowing garbage to be packaged as art or music.
I haven't heard all of Rammsein's stuff and some isn't too bad, but I do find the Genre of music farely harsh and lacking in much redeeming value. I do accept that this is my viewpoint and others will disagree(including my son). But some of what my son listens to doesn't just make my fillings ache, they loosen them up and cause them to drop out. LOL
God bless, JADE

fair points Jade, and Vaina. As always, any viewpoint is welcome on MG, as long as it abides by forum rules. It's what middle ground is about, differing views, coming together, to discuss, to debate.
