I don't. While I do agree that life out there is possible - contacting it is not.

Star Trek was a fun show, but travel over intersteller distances is simply not practical.

And as far as CONTACTING other worlds, that is just not going to happen. Take a look: http://www.computing.edu.au/~bvk/astronomy/HET608/essay/

But Vain, unless someone truly has an experience with a ghost or other "supernatural" phenominum they can only be giving opinion-based guesses. Even if they think they have experienced something it is unprovable and as the science minded will argue, untestable. So when one discusses ghosts, witches, goblens, etc. they are as much at the mercy of Faith as we Christians are.

You are right that we KNOW nothing. We can only have faith in something.

As far as ghosts go, I have no idea if they exist. And I have had some weird experiences in the past, some can probably be explained away, some can not. But that doesn't mean I have to believe in them, the jury is still just out until more evidence is presented.

Being a Christian, I have enough problems with folks ridiculing me for my beliefs without adding all the other possibilities out there. LOL

I question...Therefore I think...I think...Therefore I am...I think?

JADE: I agree, ghosts are unprovable using the scientific method. So are a lot of things, but I'm not saying I absolutely believe one way or the other. I doubt everything, especially myself, but I suppose I don't put the faith in hard science that is common in modern thought.

Pizzaguy: You're really treading the borders of utter rudeness. If I had your mentality, I could easily respond with: "Get out and see some of the world!". But that doesn't SAY anything, other than what it says about you, and your inability to hold up your end of a discussion.

I think I missed the boat on this thread and since I'm new, I'm really quite okay with that! :-)

Umm..

I'm a pretty science-minded individual. I do like to see proof and hard evidence in most instances. I can't say that I 100% believe in ghosts, but I have had experiences in my life that have caused me to question whether or not they exist. If there was some sort of scale... 0 to 6... 0 being "I do not believe in ghosts" and 6 being "I absolutely believe in ghosts"... I would have to say I'm a 4. I lean towards yes just based on personal encounters.

Not at ALL my intention!

My "take a physics course" was not meant to be nasty, but as I read it, it occurs to me that, on the 'net, we have no way to convey HOW we said something! Please put a smiley after that!

It WAS a serious suggestion.

Mark

Misery: I can dig that. There's nothing wrong with wanting proof, especially in our society.

Pizzaguy: I still don't follow you. How does putting a smiley face after the sentence change it? What do you mean by 'It WAS a serious suggestion'? You've either lost me entirely, or are still saying the same thing in a different way.

Mind you, you could have lost me. I often get lost.

I don't understand why we suddenly can't communicate!
Now, I was responding to this:

... and assumed that you were talking about my "Take a physics course" statement.

Is that what offended you?

Yes, it was. I construed what you said as a more condescending equivalent of responding with: "Nope. You're wrong." The difference being that what 'Take a physics course' seemed to imply was that I was not only wrong, but in your eyes I was wrong AND ignorant. And I don't have a problem with it if you think I'm wrong- that's what discussion is all about- but that struck me as particularly rude. Plus, it seemed to go nowhere. What was it meant to say?

That you are wrong, because of ignorance.
I do not intend that to be an insult - if I wanted to insult you, I'd have called you dumb, stupid, retarted, etc.

But ignorance, while the word sounds terrible, is only saying, "... I see that there are some things you don't know ..." that's all that it means.

We are all ignorant on many levels - different levels or topics for each of us, but we are all ignorant of SOMETHING!

I think you would enjoy physics - I did, and I only took it because I was REQUIRED to.

Very well, what is it that you think I am ignorant of? The laws of physics? I wasn't talking about them. But I don't think we will come to any agreement in this case. I don't think we're speaking the same language.
