Pardon my ignorance, but what is the reason for including the 'k' in magick or musick... etc..
Just curious...
I can do the robo-cop.

It was first added by occultist and hedonist Aleister Crowley, who founded the school of thought called Thelema. Crowley wanted to show that there was a difference between 'magic'- which at the time was associated with stage magicians and charlatans- and the process of influencing the conscious world through the focusing of the will, which he called 'magick', for want of a better term. Therefore, magic is unknown or miraculous occurrences, and magick is the careful and systematic exploration of the relation between the will and the known world.
Hope that helps a little.

Thanks, that was quite helpful.
Though does that mean musick is different than music? ;)

It makes a good basis for a debate, too.
The *k* thing, not that bit about *better than a dumb-ass*

Seriously?
Chilly, to me the *k* is more like hyphenated last names, pretentious BS. I tend to think people apply the usage JUST BECAUSE it makes them feel superior in some *superpower*/metaphysical way. Like Vain, I use the K occasionally, just to be a smart ass, but usually only around folks that know I dislike the insinuation.
I understand trying to differentiate what David Copperfield does (magic) and what spellwork consists of - but, truth be told, it's semantics. Copperfield is an illusionist, not a magician. He doesn't perform magic, he performs magic tricks.
I also feel quite a bit of contempt for that Crowley (et al) aspect of witchcraft. It yanks on my shorthairs as much as *hereditary witchcraft* or the intimation that it's somehow genetic. People can fool themselves into thinking almost anything, but practicing the craft isn't some *secret society* with fancy secret handshakes and passwords to get in a coven. Magic, is still magic. Whether it's *real* or not, whether it's believed or not, or even how it's defined (miracles, anyone?) the word is still the same. It's the people that are different.
All that being said... The addition of a K is usually applied by either modern sorcerers or wannabe witches. Usually. Chaos Magick is still magic, no matter HOW they spell it.
IMO, of course.
