So then do I take it you are of the Jewish faith? If so, which one do you follow?

Which sect of Judaism do I adhere to? None precisely, I'm either transdenominational (depending on what term you prefer) or Progressive (the one I prefer).
In Judaism there are 3 main branches; you may have heard of Orthodox and Reform, but there's also Conservative which falls in between. There's also one minor one known as Reconstructionist Judaism and beyond that there's Secular/Humanist Judaism. These all have their own central organizations (think Church fellowships) but in contrast to the thousands in split off in Protestant Christianity, there's really just those handful in the Jewish world. In fact, it's kinda topsy turvey in Judaism; the Orthodox have more congregational organizations that the more Progressive sects do. Funny that.
Hope that answered your question. :)

Then I'm sure you listen to Denis Prager and Micheal Medved. Two great Americans. I am most impressed with Denis and love his motto of striving for clarity over agreement. I think that is the best we can hope for and can be attained in most cases. Whereas striving for agreement can be quite frustrating and not very successful. Anyway, looking forward to seeing some great discussions on Judaism et al.
By the way, you missed one, Messionic Judaism.
God bless, JADE

Buber,
Are you familar with the Hebrew alphebet?
I need an answer from someone who is familar with it.
It's concerning the breastplate worn by the high priest. The 12 stones which were ingraved with the names of the 12 tribes.
My question is: Is there any letter of the 22 letter Hebrew alphabet that is NOT included in the names of the 12 tribes.
Thanks in advance if you know (or can direct me to one who knows). |

My extreme apologies for not responding to this thread for about 2 months. My simple excuse is that I forgot to log in. I am familiar with the Hebrew alphabet, as there was a point was I was close to fluent in Hebrew, however, your question has little to do with the alphabet itself. I will inquire at the next available opportunity, but I thank you in advance for your patience.
Also, Messianic Judaism is NOT under any circumstances, Judaism.

1. Can we see you do the robo-cop? 2. IfI ask a question, will I have to wait 2 months for a reply? LOL 3. Okay, someone I know told me that the early jews (I'm not familiary with all the different sects you noted) believed that either an unborn child did not have a soul until 40 days after conception or else it is 40 days after actually birth?
Sorry, I wasn't listening very closely to her - either sound familiar to you?

This link might help to understand why most Jews don't accept Messianic Jews as being part of the Jewish religion. But even in reading that view, it seems that it is no different than many of our off shoot branches that claim to be Christian and many other Christians claim them not to be. So it would be a debatable stance that probably has no real conclusion.
Sikhs also refuse to accept they are an offshoot of the Muslim belief, but there are links and history that shows they are a merging of Muslim/Hindu beliefs. While Mormons are not concidered Christians(and resemble Muslims in many ways), they still have some links to Christianity.
Buber, could you give us an arguement justifying why a Messianic Jew is not an offshoot of the Jewish religion?
God bless, JADE

Unfortunately, I think a debate in this matter won't result in any sort of conclusion, but I'd be happy to talk about it. Would you like my opinion in the matter?
