All right, since it's nearing Halloween, let me pose a horror question to you all:

What, in your opinion, is the most frightening film of all time? And why?

My vote is for John Carpenter's 'The Thing'. I've never seen a movie that so effectively creates a pervasive feeling of dread, and of wrongness about things. It's claustrophobic, well-acted, and creepy as hell.

Hmm... I've always hated, and I mean HATED the Nightmare on Elm Street films. I mean the character is laughable, but it's how he attacks. In your dreams, that bothered me as a child, and bothers me to this day. I still won't watch a Freddie movie.

"The Audition". It is a Japanese horror show that is in the same vein as "The Saw". It just plain weirded me out and still bothers me. I don't really know if these are as much horror as they are slasher movies. I guess they are about the same thing nowadays.

As far as jump in your face "Boo" type movies, I think "The Grudge" or "The Ring" did a pretty good job of that.

God bless,
JADE

They are all creepy - I don't watch them and never watched a great deal of them. I will say that the Orginal Exorcist tormented me for years.

The film that scared me the most (and still leaves alot of claws in my metality today) is Jaws. I remember watching it when I was 5, and for weeks afterwards I had nightmares about sharks walking on land looking to eat me.

To this day I cannot watch any film with sharks in it and I will not go any where near a place where you can get close to sharks, and I most definatly will not go through those glass tunnels at sea world where you can see sharks swimming above your head *shudders*

As to pure out and out horror movies, they don't normally scare me, the one that has weirded me out the most though has got to be "saw", I just could not figure out who the killer was, and then to see the body at the end get up and walk away, well that was freaky.

I've heard a lot of people mention Saw as scariest or most disturbing, and I have to say- I hate that movie. It's so pointless, so miserable and amoral and dismal and dirty. I don't mind downbeat movies- one of my favorite movies is Seven- but that one leaves a nasty taste in my mouth.

And they're doing a third one for this Halloween. Whee.

I liked Saw, and Saw II. I hated the part in II with the needle pit. That was the only part that turned my stomach.

I understand what you're saying Vissy. When I was about that age I watched one of the first Werewolf movies called, "Curse of the Werewolf" and also a scifi movie called, "The angry Red Planet". Both scared me and left some mental imprints that are still with me nearly 50 years later. That is why it is so important not to let young children see things when their little minds aren't ready for them.

I don't know what its going to be like in the future with all the kids watching so many slasher and disgusting movies. I think a good society needs citizens that get shocked or disgusted with sick things and actions. As Vain said, "pointless, so miserable and amoral and dismal and dirty." Sadly thats what they are pumping out and everyone is watching. Trying to get the biggest disgust factor. Has anyone else seen "the Audition"? YUK

God bless,
JADE

I do not scare easy, I collect horror movies. One of my favorite is 13 Ghost, not because of the scare factor but the writer has one heck of an imagination. I love both Saw 1 and 2 but they did not scare me. The Hills have Eyes I also thought had a great story line, but as far as scaring me the only movie I can think of that ever scared me was a movie I seen as a child. It was called Don't look in the Basement. Have not seen it since, It came out early 70's and we were at a drive in. Scared the crap out of me as a kid.
